Korean bulk carrier attacked, robbed in South China sea

Seven pirates on a speedboat attacked Korean bulk carrier CK BLUEBELL early in the morning Jul 22, Korea’s Yonhap news agency said attack took place “near Singapore Strait”. Crew were robbed, pirates left the ship with roughly $13,000 in cash and valuables like laptops and smartphones. The ship was well into South China sea at the time of the assault, near Riau Archipelago in position 02 56N 105 11E, en route from Santos Brazil to Incheon Korea, via Singapore, where she anchored on Jul 20. The ship left Singapore on Jul 21. Several crew said to suffer minor injures while trying to resist pirates.
